Pune: If you are 'shocked' over the unreasonably high electricity bill after the lockdown period, you can now visit https://billcal.mahadiscom.in/consumerbill/ a link issued by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and get answers to all your queries.
The MSEDCL had stopped the work of taking meter readings of consumers in the Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad city and district areas during the lockdown. Since the lockdown started in the last week of March, the bills for that month were issued and paid by the consumers, however, the bills based on precise meter readings for April, May and June were not issued. MSEDCL had issued bills based on average consumption of units in the last month. As a result, during April, May and June the power bill amounts were very less.
With lockdown relaxations being implemented in almost 90 per cent of the district, MSEDCL has resumed its meter reading recording and bill distribution activities. It has however excluded containment zones from these areas. MSEDCL has asked its agencies to ensure that their employees wear mask, gloves and sanitizer while taking the meter reading and maintain social distancing. Wherever necessary, the employees are taking permissions of the housing societies.
MSEDCL officials have appealed to citizens to crosscheck their power bills by visiting the link. MSEDCL has used computerized means for splitting the meter readings for the three months equally. If a consumer has a meter reading of 330 units, the monthly slab rate is being applied for 165 units. All information regarding billing methodology is also mentioned in the bill, officials said.
"Consumers need not worry about high rates for upper consumption slabs. We have not charged a single rupee extra to consumers. Hence consumers should not go to the office for correction in bill amounts," officials have requested.
