MSRTC will roll out live bus tracking via its mobile app by the end of August, starting with 700 buses in Pune.
Passengers can track their buses in real time using a 'Trip Code' mentioned on their ticket.
The initiative aims to enhance convenience, reduce waiting times, and encourage greater use of state-run transport.
Pune, 23 July 2025: In a move to make public transport more convenient and technology-friendly, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will soon launch live bus tracking through its official mobile application. The feature will initially cover over 700 buses in Pune and is expected to be made available to the public by the end of August.
Once the system is operational, passengers can view the real-time location of their bus by entering the ‘Trip Code’ printed on their ticket in the MSRTC app. This will help commuters plan their journeys more efficiently and reduce unnecessary waiting at bus stands.
The MSRTC mobile app, already available on the Play Store, offers a range of services including online ticket booking, route information, and estimated arrival times. It also includes safety features such as reporting vehicle issues, requesting medical help, or contacting authorities during emergencies.
Currently, the tracking system is available internally for MSRTC staff. A trial version has been launched, and based on performance, it will be expanded for public use across Maharashtra by the end of August.
According to Pune Divisional Controller Arun Siya, the introduction of real-time tracking is part of a larger plan to modernize the state’s transport system. The aim is to offer commuters a more dependable, tech-enabled service that encourages wider use of public transport.
