Pune, 19 January 2026: After the completion of the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, the civic administration is preparing to hand over the functioning of the corporation to the newly elected body. To ensure that corporators are well-equipped to handle civic responsibilities, a structured training programme will be organised at Yashada.
In the recently concluded elections, 101 corporators have been elected for the first time, while 64 members have prior experience in the civic body. Since the corporation was under an administrator’s rule for nearly four years, the newly elected members will now take charge of decision-making and governance in the coming days.
The training programme aims to provide a clear understanding of how the municipal council functions, the legal framework governing civic administration, and the specific powers and responsibilities of corporators.
It will also explain the roles of municipal officers, the duties entrusted to elected representatives, and how effective coordination between corporators and the administration can improve city governance.
Special emphasis will be given to practical aspects of council proceedings, important legal provisions, and the division of responsibilities between elected members and officials. Experts will guide the corporators to help them perform their roles effectively and responsibly.
Confirming the plan, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said that the training programme will be organised soon to help newly elected corporators understand the functioning of the municipal corporation in a systematic manner.
The initiative is expected to ensure smoother functioning of the Pune Municipal Corporation and help newly elected corporators contribute more effectively to the city’s development.
