Pune, 4th May 2026: A fatal road accident occurred at the accident-prone Navale Bridge in Narhe on Monday morning, claiming the life of a 22-year-old man and leaving another seriously injured. The incident once again highlighted safety concerns on the busy Satara Highway (NH-4).
The accident took place around 8:05 am near Hotel Pigara on the Mumbai-bound lane. According to police, a container truck rammed into a pickup vehicle from behind at high speed, reportedly due to rash and negligent driving.
The impact was severe, killing the pickup driver, Mahadev Uttam Shende (22), on the spot. Another passenger, Sumit Dattu Kamble (22), sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a private hospital on Sinhagad Road.
Following the initial collision, the pickup vehicle crashed into a Tata Eicher truck ahead, resulting in a chain accident involving three vehicles. Emergency teams, including police, fire brigade personnel, and ambulances, quickly reached the spot and rescued those trapped inside the damaged vehicles.
The accident led to massive traffic congestion on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass, with long queues of vehicles stretching across the Navale Bridge area. Office-goers and daily commuters faced significant delays during peak hours.
Police later cleared the damaged vehicles to the roadside and began efforts to restore normal traffic flow, while advising motorists to use alternative routes.
Senior Police Inspector Asaram Shete stated that legal action will be taken in connection with the incident, and further investigation is currently underway.
