Pune now holding the torch for being COVID hotspot again

Owing to the alarming situation, the PMC has also decided to restart its Jumbo COVID-19 Hospital at Shivajinagar from next week.

Pune: Pune district, on Saturday, recorded 5,591 new COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, according to health department.

The progressive count of the distric on Saturday stood at 4.65 lakh out of which 4.18 lakh have recovered. On the other side, 8,219 have been reported dead and over 38,000 are active cases who are undergoing treatment in different hospitals or are in home isolation.

Of the 5,591 cases in the district, Pune city (Pune Municipal Corporation) saw 3,200 new cases while Pimpri Chinchwad (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) reported 1,468 new cases in a single day. Also, Pune rural recorded 923 new cases on Saturday.

Owing to the alarming situation, the PMC has also decided to restart its Jumbo COVID-19 Hospital at Shivajinagar from next week.

The administration also issued new guidelines to curtail the further spread of the infection. In a set of new guidelines, theatres and cinema halls can function at 50 per cent seating capacity. On the other side, all private offices/institutions (expect the health and essential services) will work with 50 per cent capacity.

However, no political, religious, social, cultural programmes will be allowed in the city.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra recorded the highest one-day spike with 27,126 COVID-19 cases on Saturday since the pandemic.
