Pune: PMC allows fitness freaks to exercise in gymnasiums; but gardens, parks remain closed

Vikram Kumar, Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation, has issued orders regarding this on Saturday. He has also warned that action will be taken against establishments who will flout these norms.

Pune: Exercise, eat, drink and sleep well, this is what the Pune Municipal Corporation wants you to do from tomorrow… The civic body has allowed fitness freaks to exercise as rigorously as they want in gymnasiums from Sunday (October 25) and also extended the timings of hotels, restaurants, bars and food courts till 11:30 pm. However, the PMC has still not allowed the public gardens, parks to open for citizens who want to go for a walk or exercise in the open.

Vikram Kumar, Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation, has issued orders regarding this on Saturday. He has also warned that action will be taken against establishments who will flout these norms. PMC will be forming teams for a random inspection and will collect a fine of Rs 5,000 from violators.

The state government had allowed gymnasiums to function from Dussehra. The PMC has followed its footsteps and allowed the gyms in the city to reopen. A standard operating protocol has also been issued for operating the gyms. It includes maintaining social distancing by keeping a minimum 6 feet distance between non-exercising customers and 12 feet distance between exercising customers.

- Establishments can operate with only 50 per cent of their capacity.

- Customers in bars should be seated a minimum of 6 feet away

- Every table should be sanitised at regular interval

- Customers should be screened for temperatures

- Wearing a mask is mandatory for customers
