Pune, 29th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday carried out a major demolition drive against illegal constructions in Lohgaon and Kharadi, razing nearly 21,400 square feet of unauthorized RCC structures.
The action is part of the civic body's renewed campaign to curb illegal developments, particularly in newly merged villages where unauthorized plotting and construction have become a growing concern.
The demolition was conducted by PMC's Encroachment and Unauthorized Construction Removal Department under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Somnath Bankar.
The operation began in the morning at Nimbalkar Nagar in Lohgaon (Survey No. 294) before extending to illegal structures in Kharadi. Officials said the administration has adopted a stricter approach after noticing a rise in constructions being carried out without the required permissions.
According to PMC, many unauthorized buildings are being developed in violation of planning norms, with some construction activities reportedly taking place at night to avoid detection. The civic body said it will continue taking strict action against such developments to prevent further encroachments and ensure planned urban growth.
A large team was deployed for the demolition, including two police officers, 13 police personnel, 35 Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) personnel, five JCB machines, six gas cutters, seven breakers and 25 labourers. The security arrangements ensured that the operation was completed without any major disruption.
Deputy Commissioner Somnath Bankar appealed to citizens not to purchase plots in unauthorized layouts until the Development Plan (DP) is approved. He also urged prospective homebuyers to thoroughly verify all legal documents before investing in any property, cautioning that purchasing homes in illegal buildings could result in financial losses and legal complications.
PMC reiterated that its drive against illegal constructions will continue across the city to discourage violations and protect buyers from fraudulent real estate transactions.
