Pune, 14 July 2025: The villages of Uruli Devachi and Fursungi, which were earlier excluded from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits and declared as separate municipal councils, are gradually being handed over to new administrative frameworks. However, until these newly formed municipal councils establish their own mechanisms for water supply, solid waste management, and other essential civic services, the responsibility for these services will remain with the Pune Municipal Corporation.

An official review meeting chaired by PMC Additional Commissioner Omprakash Diwate was held on July 14. During the meeting, it was revealed that the transfer of most properties from PMC to the new bodies has already been completed. In 2017, both villages were included within PMC limits, but a government decision taken on September 11, 2024, declared them independent councils.

Since the new systems were not yet operational, the Urban Development Department issued an order on September 23, 2024, instructing PMC to temporarily continue providing basic services to prevent any disruption in daily life.

The handover process is now being carried out in a phased and organized manner. Diwate stated that PMC continues to manage the water supply schemes that were already in operation under the jurisdiction of the water authority. In addition, the paperwork related to the Town Planning (TP) Scheme is also being transferred to the new administrative entities.

Currently, sanitation and waste management responsibilities are still being handled by PMC. While the new councils prepare to take over, the civic body will continue to ensure that there is no lapse in critical public services for residents in both villages.

Officials emphasized that the transition aims to be seamless, with the municipal corporation maintaining oversight until the necessary infrastructure and administrative capabilities of the new municipal councils are in place.
