Pune: The Pune Police have appealed citizens to inform them about any crimes committed by police imposters in the city. If citizens have doubt about any individual carrying a fake identity card of the police department, then they can inform the police control room on 100 number or any other senior police inspector of any police station.

Crime branch sleuths arrested Imtiaz Idris Memon, a resident of Hadapsar on Saturday (October 17). Imtiaz is a criminal-on-police-record with several offences registered against him at Hadapsar and Wanawadi police stations in the city. He has been involved in serious offences like rioting, arson and extortion.

Imtiaz was possessing a fake identity card of the Pune police department. He used to threaten citizens by using this identity card. On the other hand, he used to evade any police action using the same card.

When police teams of the Unit 5 of the Crime Branch were patrolling the Hadapsar area they received a tip off about Imtiaz. The information was shared with senior police officers and it was decided to nab the suspect as soon as possible. Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Bachchan Singh and senior Police Inspector Bhaskar Jadhav, Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Tasgaonkar, Police Sub Inspector Pradeep Surve and police personnel Bharat Ransingh, Daya Shegar, Ankush Jogdand laid a trap in Hadapsar area and nabbed Imtiaz.

When police personnel frisked Imtiaz during his detention, a fake police identity card in the name of Pune Police department was found in his possession. The card was allegedly ‘issued’ in 2007 and it had his real name, birth date and photo printed on it.

After interrogation Imtiaz revealed that he used to show the fake identity card to citizens to threaten them and in case of any police action he used to evade it using the same card. A case has been registered against Imtiaz in this connection at the Hadapsar police station.
