Pune, 26th August 2026: Pune Police have made it clear that there will be no relaxation on rules governing high-volume DJ systems during Ganeshotsav and Dahi Handi celebrations. While the police have no objection to people celebrating the festivals with enthusiasm, excessively loud music and noise pollution will not be permitted.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “We have no objection to the celebration of festivals. However, high-intensity sound that causes noise pollution will not be permitted. Plasma systems and pressure horns will remain completely banned. If the prescribed noise limits or rules are violated, the equipment will be seized immediately.”
A meeting was held at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday (August 24) with officials from various civic departments, the police administration and representatives of Ganesh mandals to discuss preparations for the upcoming festive season.
During the meeting, representatives of Ganesh mandals and festival organisers sought fewer restrictions and a more relaxed environment for celebrations.
The police, however, maintained that noise-control regulations would continue to apply. Authorities are also expected to frame specific guidelines for the use of DJ systems and loudspeakers. These will include permissible sound levels and rules governing the use of bass and top speakers.
Police officials have warned that mandals found operating DJ systems beyond the permitted noise limits could face direct seizure of the equipment. The restrictions will particularly apply to systems such as high-powered DJs, plasma and mid-pressure setups that produce excessive sound.
The police said the objective is to allow festivals to be celebrated with enthusiasm while ensuring that noise pollution rules are strictly followed.
