Pune, 28 April 2026: In a midnight operation, the Pune Police conducted a massive raid on the 'Disco' and 'Machis' buildings located in the Budhwar Peth. The crackdown targeted illegal prostitution rackets operating across various floors of these buildings. The raid, which began late Monday night, continued until 5:00 AM on Tuesday, April 28.

The operation was carried out under the direct guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Krishikesh Rawale. A joint task force, comprising officers and personnel from the Faraskhana, Vishrambag, and Khadak police stations, worked together to secure the premises. This coordinated effort was aimed at catching the operators off-guard during peak hours.

During the search, authorities took 18 individuals into custody. Out of these, 15 were identified as Bangladeshi nationals, consisting of 11 women, three men, and one child.

Police discovered that 11 women, aged between 15 and 30, were being exploited on the fourth floor of the 'Machis' building. Shockingly, one of the victims was a 15-year-old girl who had been forced into the trade.

The investigation revealed a structured hierarchy behind the illegal business. Sumit Milind Chavan, 33, was identified as the primary mastermind overseeing the operations in both buildings. He was supported by Jyoti, also known as Sabina Aslam Sheikh, 40, who served as the 'Akkabai' or lead controller of the women.

To ensure the daily business ran smoothly, two managers, Samir Mustafa Halavdar, 29, and Rahul Sharma, 24, were employed at the site. According to DCP Krishikesh Rawale, the police have seized several mobile phones and accounting diaries that detail the financial transactions of the racket. These items are currently being analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.

This major enforcement action is expected to help curb the illegal residence of Bangladeshi nationals and disrupt human trafficking networks within the city. Following the rescue, the women have been moved to safety, and the police are now focused on identifying further links to this international trafficking route.
