After several days of scorching heat and rising temperatures, Pune finally received much-needed relief on Sunday evening as light showers swept across several parts of the city.
Following cloudy conditions throughout the day, rain was first reported in Sinhagad Road and Kothrud, before spreading to Ghorpadi and Vishrantwadi, where light showers were recorded.
Rainfall was also reported from Sahakarnagar, Mandai, Kondhwa, Hadapsar, Katraj, and the Baner-Balewadi area, bringing a noticeable drop in temperature and much-needed respite from the humid weather. The sudden showers caught many commuters off guard, leading to brief traffic disruptions in some areas.
Over the past week, Pune and its surrounding regions had witnessed a steady rise in temperatures, with daytime highs ranging between 37°C and 40°C. The combination of intense heat and humidity had made outdoor activities increasingly uncomfortable for residents. Weather conditions changed significantly on Sunday, with rain bringing cooler temperatures across the city.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Pune and adjoining areas for the next two to three days. The weather department expects the rainfall to bring a further drop in maximum temperatures, offering continued relief from the prevailing heat.
