Pune, 3rd April 2026: A tragic accident occurred in Varadade village of Haveli taluka in Pune, where a young crane operator lost his life during ongoing ring road construction work. The deceased has been identified as Vijay Kumar.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place while he was climbing onto a crane at the worksite. He was not using any safety gear such as a life jacket or protective equipment. During the climb, he slipped from the ladder and fell nearly 40 feet into the river below.
As he did not know how to swim, he was unable to come out of the water, leading to his death.
Upon receiving information, police, the Haveli disaster management rescue team, and the fire brigade quickly reached the spot. A search and rescue operation was immediately launched, and the body was later recovered from the water.
The incident has raised serious concerns about safety practices at construction sites. Locals believe that the tragedy could have been avoided if proper safety measures and equipment had been in place.
