The Pune Municipal Corporation is set to open the first stretch of the city’s riverfront development project to the public from February 15. The riverfront project is progressing in three stages. The section set to open on February 15 is included in the initial phase. This first phase spans a total of 3.7 km, stretching from Sangamwadi to Bund Garden. Initially, only a 1.5 km segment will be accessible to the public.

Three-Phase Riverfront Plan

The riverfront project is scheduled to be executed in three stages.

  • Phase one covers a 3.7 km stretch from Sangamwadi to Bund Garden.

  • Phase two includes a 5.5 km stretch from Bund Garden to Mundhwa.

  • Phase three spans an 8.1 km stretch from Aundh to Balewadi.

As per PMC, additional parts of the riverfront might be gradually opened starting in March, contingent on the advancement of the work.

The PMC plans to introduce walking paths, cycling tracks, themed gardens, seating areas, and green zones along the riverfront. With extensive tree plantation and open spaces, the project aims to offer a clean, accessible recreational area for families, seniors, and visitors of all ages.

Visiting Timings

The first open section of the riverfront will be accessible to citizens starting February 15, following the inauguration, during the specified hours. PMC representatives stated that the schedule is designed to ensure safety while enabling people to enjoy the riverfront during the most pleasant times of the day.

Morning: 6 am to 9 am

Evening: 5 pm to 8 pm

The PMC has suggested the creation of theme parks along the riverfront. These parks are anticipated to provide picturesque views of the river and act as leisure areas for the public.
