Pune, 15 July 2025: In a shocking incident in Wanowrie’s Jambhulkar Chowk, two armed robbers broke into the residence of retired Wing Commander Virendra Kumar Jindal and looted approximately 40 tolas of gold and ₹8.5 lakh in cash during the early hours of Monday.
The robbery took place around 2:30 to 3:00 AM at Kaushalya Bungalow, where Wing Commander Jindal resides. The robbers entered the house while he was asleep and went straight to the bedroom. They covered his mouth to prevent him from shouting and asked him where the gold was kept. Threatening him not to move, they demanded the key to the cupboard. Reportedly, the intruders were carrying a hammer and a rod resembling a hexa-blade.
Fearing for his life, Wing Commander Jindal complied and handed over the cupboard key. The robbers then emptied the locker, stealing gold ornaments weighing nearly 40 tolas along with ₹8.5 lakh in cash before fleeing the scene.
The incident has created a sense of panic among residents of the Wanowrie area, especially since it took place in a locality known for housing several retired military officers and police officials. The fact that such a serious crime could occur on a main road in a high-security zone has left many locals alarmed.
This robbery has also raised serious concerns about the state of security in what is considered one of the more sensitive and well-guarded parts of the city. Residents are demanding stricter patrolling and more surveillance in the area to prevent such incidents in the future.
