

Pune: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) is one of the important sources of gaining revenues for Maharashtra State government, but due to lockdown, the income went low. But after the partially opening of such office in 22 days, RTO generated Rs 10.50 crores revenue by registering the vehicles.
For last two months after the lockdown was announced the RTO was given the responsibility of giving passes as well as inspecting and verifying the vehicle to be utilised for essential services work operation and no other work was carried out by the officials of RTO.
To curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic the government office and only the essential services sectors were open. But considering one of the prime key areas of generating the source of revenue from May 18 the Pune RTO Office started functioning with a small workforce.
RTO deals with providing license, renewable licenced, vehicles registration, vehicles inspection, renew of vehicles and others. But due to lockdown most of the work was not carried. In the span of some 22 days that is from May 18 to June 8, around 1,500 vehicle's were registered with RTO.
Speaking to Sakal Times, the RTO officer said, "We first focus on registration of vehicle's entry which was purchased by people. Most of the vehicle registered were of six vehicles of BS-6 vehicle model, 904 two-wheelers vehicles were registered, 690 four vehicles were registered, 58 autorickshaws were registered, 27 light goods travelling vehicles were registered, and other five vehicles were registered with us."
He added, "In a span of 22 days that from May 18 till June 8 total 1,500 vehicles were registered with us and Rs 10.5 crores revenues was generated."
