

Pune, 18 March 2026: A portion of a three-storey residential building in Sadashiv Peth collapsed shortly after midnight, prompting an immediate emergency response. The incident took place at Charudatta Apartment around 12:15 am, when parts of the boundary wall, gallery, and staircase suddenly gave way.
Residents inside the building were left stranded as the structure partially collapsed. The fire brigade received the alert and quickly dispatched a fire engine and rescue vehicle from the central station to the site.
On arrival, the rescue team assessed the situation and began evacuation operations. Using extension ladders, safety belts, and ropes, they carefully rescued 10 residents, five men and five women, who were trapped on the first, second, and third floors.
Two elderly individuals were also among those rescued and were brought down safely without any injuries. A pet dog was also successfully evacuated during the operation, which lasted for nearly an hour.
Police officials, municipal engineers, and electricity department staff were present at the scene. The incident caused brief panic in the locality, but no casualties were reported. Locals praised the fire brigade’s swift action, which helped prevent a major tragedy.
