Pune, 12th August 2026: An 82-year-old Pune resident was allegedly cheated of ₹10 crore 74 lakh 65 thousand through a digital arrest scam between January 23 and January 31, 2026.

The accused allegedly contacted the senior citizen and falsely claimed that a bank account had been opened in his name using his Aadhaar card.

The fraudsters allegedly told him that the account had been linked to a case involving businessman Naresh Goyal and that 24 people had complained about transactions made through the account. They threatened that the senior citizen and members of his family could be arrested.

Posing as CBI officers, the accused allegedly told the victim that he could avoid arrest by transferring all his investments to bank accounts provided by them for 'verification' and security. Believing the claims, the victim transferred a total of ₹10.74 crore.

Pune Cyber Police have now arrested Rohan Rameshwar Jadhav, who was allegedly involved in the fraud. Three other accused in the case have already been arrested.

Jadhav, originally from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, had been living in Pimple Nilakh since 2022. He is a B.Sc. graduate and was reportedly working as a Reel creator on Instagram under the name 'RohanJadhav'.

The case was registered at the Cyber Police Station, and investigators are continuing their probe to identify the role of other people involved in the fraud and trace the money transferred by the victim.

Cyber Police have urged citizens to remain alert if anyone claims to be a CBI, ED, police or other government official and demands money through a video call, phone call or message.

Police said citizens should immediately contact the national cybercrime helpline at 1930 or file a complaint through www.cybercrime.gov.in if they receive such threats or demands.
