Pune: Service road from Jedhe chowk towards Katraj closed for vehicular traffic; here are alternative routes you can use

Pune: Traffic police have made temporary changes in the traffic flow in the stretch between Jedhe Chowk and Krantisinh Nana Patil chowk near Laxmi Narayan Theatre in Swargate area. All vehicles heading towards Katraj from the Jedhe chowk will now have to either use the flyover or the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) lane in the middle of the road as the service road on that side has been closed for vehicular movement.

The Pune Metro line connecting Swargate and Pimpri-Chinchwad will be starting from the proposed metro station at the Jedhe chowk. A multimodal transport hub has also been proposed at the Jedhe chowk to connect the Pune Metro with all kinds of motorised and non-motorised transport at this location. Work on both projects is undergoing at full swing at the Swargate area.

The MahaMetro Company has started the underground tunnel work between the metro station and the existing State Transport (ST) bus stand. This work has been started since August 30. Thus, the service road from Jedhe chowk towards Katraj has been closed for vehicular traffic and other movements. Considering the heavy traffic flow in this junction and the stretch between Jedhe chowk and Krantisinh Nana Patil chowk near Laxmi Narayan Theatre, Pune traffic police have proposed some changes in the traffic pattern on an experimental basis.

Dr Sanjay Shinde, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch said, "Accordingly, traffic from Jedhe Chowk at Swargate heading towards Katraj through the service road has been closed. The vehicles heading towards Katraj will be diverted on the flyover or in the BRT lane via Krantisinh Nana Patil chowk near Laxmi Narayan Theatre."

For buses operating between Swargate to Katraj, the PMPML bus stop has been relocated at a distance of 30 to 40 meters away from the start of the flyover. Pune traffic police have informed that the buses coming from the Swargate chowk and heading towards Katraj will use this bus stop via the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.
