Pune: Shiv Sena leader murdered; three detained
Pune: A local Yuva Sena (Shiv Sena’s youth wing) office bearer from Kasba Constituency was murdered in the early hours of Friday by a group of unidentified people in Pune’s Budhwar Peth area. The police stated that the matter is underway to find the motive behind the killing.
The deceased, who was identified as Deepak Maratkar, was the son of former Shiv Sena Corporator Vijay Maratkar. Two months ago, Deepak’s father lost his life amid the novel coronavirus. Deepak was an office bearer of Yuva Sena.
As per Pune Police, initial investigation revealed that four to five people attacked Deepak near his residence at around 12.30 am and fled on two-wheelers thereafter. Three persons have been detained in connection with the attack.
Deepak had stepped outside his home at midnight after dinner. Meanwhile, four to five people on bikes assaulted him with sharp weapons and fled from the spot. Maratkar sustained injuries on his head and back.
The Shiv Sena leader was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to injuries at around 3 am. A murder case is lodged at Faraskhana police station. The primary investigation suggests that the murder might have taken place amid political rivalry.
