Pune: Shivajinagar MLA, Siddharth Shirole, has demanded an audit of blind spots and efficacy of the entire Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) network in the city. The demand has been made after noted businessman Gautam Pashankar's mysterious disappearance from the Shivajinagar area on Wednesday evening.

The young and dynamic MLA in his two tweets on this issue has said that "Disappearance of renowned businessman from the Shivajinagar area and the failure to accurately trace his movements has highlighted the shortcomings of Pune's CCTV Network. It is a direct consequence of the lack of coordination between the Pune City Police and the Pune Municipal Corporation."

"Today, a coordinated and collaborative CCTV network is an indispensable tool for effective policing and protection of citizens. I have written to Pune Police Commissioner and PMC Commissioner and CEO of Smart City project to immediately audit the entire CCTV network for blind spots and efficacy," Shirole has said in his next tweet.

Pune Police Commissioner, Amitabh Gupta had earlier in this month said that the CCTV camera network, installed at different locations in the city, would be upgraded to keep a check on the law and order situation. Gupta had pointed out that there are several damaged CCTV cameras at important junctions that would be repaired and new ones of higher quality would be installed at strategic locations. He had announced that about 1,500 CCTV cameras would be made operational at important locations for security reasons and that a proposal in this regard would be prepared soon.
