Pune, 28 January 2026: After the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar in a tragic plane crash, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner has ordered a complete shutdown of the city for today and tomorrow as a mark of respect.
The decision comes amid widespread grief across Pune. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with the administration and follow official instructions. While most commercial activities will remain closed, essential services will continue to operate. The administration has also announced that Pune’s Market Yard will remain shut tomorrow.
Ajit Pawar lost his life in an early morning airplane accident during landing. Preliminary information suggests that low visibility led to the pilot misjudging the runway. The crash claimed six lives, including the pilot and Pawar’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD). A detailed investigation into the incident is underway.
To maintain law and order during the shutdown, police deployment has been intensified across the city. The administration said the situation is under close watch as Pune observes a two-day shutdown in mourning.
