Pune, 7th July 2026: City will receive uninterrupted water supply for the next five days after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) withdrew the ongoing water rationing in view of the extended stay of Warkaris in the city.
The decision comes after severe flooding in Alandi disrupted the pilgrimage route ahead of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi procession.
Mayor Manjusha Nagpure said all parts of Pune will receive regular water supply from July 7 to July 12. The civic body will review the situation after this period and decide whether to resume water cuts depending on the improvement in reservoir storage following the recent rainfall.
Heavy rainfall over the past four days has caused flooding across Pune district, submerging several bridges over the Indrayani River leading to Alandi. The Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi is scheduled to begin its journey from Alandi on July 8, but floodwaters have made access to the pilgrimage town difficult.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis appealed to Warkaris to remain in Pune until conditions improve, following which the PMC held an emergency meeting and decided to suspend water rationing.
The civic administration has instructed Pune Police and the Traffic Police to implement a special traffic plan to manage the extended stay of pilgrims. With thousands of Warkaris, dindis, support vehicles and trucks expected to remain in the city for the next few days, authorities anticipate increased pressure on major roads.
Officials have been directed to announce traffic diversions where necessary, deploy additional police personnel and ensure the smooth movement of pilgrims while minimising congestion across Pune.
