Pune, 20 February 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a citywide cleanliness competition titled ‘Swacchata Parv Puraskar’, aimed at improving daily waste management and visible cleanliness across Pune.
The initiative was formally launched on February 19, marking Shiv Jayanti, under the PMC’s solid waste management department as part of the “Swachh Pune Sankalp” campaign. The competition will be held from March 1 until the end of September.
The contest will cover ward offices, housing societies, schools, colleges, hospitals, markets, hotels and other commercial establishments. The civic administration said the main focus will be on daily garbage management, source segregation of wet waste, visible cleanliness in public and residential areas, and maintenance of community toilets. Nine key indicators will be used for evaluation.
The launch event was attended by Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, Deputy Mayor Parashuram Wadekar, Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar, Opposition Leader Nilesh Nikam, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur, and other civic officials along with representatives from societies, institutions and businesses.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Pavneet Kaur said the administration aims to increase citizen participation in waste management through different competition categories. She said the civic body expects active involvement from residents and institutions to improve overall cleanliness standards in the city.
Mayor Manjusha Nagpure stressed the need for strict action against banned plastic and urged stakeholders to process wet waste at the source, especially in housing societies and commercial establishments.
Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar said, “Cleanliness is a collective responsibility. Pune leads in education, IT and automobiles. The city should also rank first in cleanliness and daily waste management. Everyone must work together to achieve that goal.”
The civic body said the competition is not only about awards but about reinforcing a collective commitment toward a clean, green and beautiful Pune, inspired by the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti.
