Pune: Pune city’s Navale Bridge considered as an accident hotspot will soon get rumble strips along to curtail the accidents in the vicinity.

The area of Navale Bridge has witnessed many accidents from the past few years. One person was injured while 10 vehicles were damaged after a truck driver lost control of his vehicle, which ploughed multiple vehicles on the bypass road of Mumbai-Bangalore Highway near Navale Bridge on Wednesday. This was the sixth accident of this year.

Now to avert future accidents, the Pune traffic branch has forced a speed limit on vehicles plying Navale bridge towards the Katraj tunnel. The traffic branch also asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to install signboards mentioning the maximum speed of 60km/hour.

Rahul Srirame, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said, “The stretch of Navale Bridge has now become accident-prone zone. We have witnessed many accidents here. From the past few days, we are taking stringent steps to restrict over-speeding and rash driving.”

"Speed interceptor vehicles, along with rumble strips and speed guns will be installed here. We have also written a concerned letter to the NHAI for the same. Also, those driving their vehicles over the speed of 60 kmph will face strict action,” he added.

The Pune traffic police recently launched a study to check the spot and come up with solutions to slow the traffic. Shrirame along with other senior police officers from the Pune traffic police department conducted a review of the accident spot in November.
