Pune: Three people arrested for possessing marijuana worth 24 lakhs

Three people were arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Pune City Police's Crime Branch with alleged possession of 130 kilograms of marijuana worth Rs 24.54 lakh.

The accused were identified as Arun Baliram Jadhav (26) and Prasant Haribhau Shinde (25) of Nigdi and Shubham Sunil Mohite (19) of Khed.

The crime branch team led by Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Mohite laid a trap near Shastri Nagar in Yerwada on Thursday evening to get hold of the accused, who had come to the area in a four-wheeler. When the police tried to stop the vehicle, the accused tried escaping, but eventually got caught. Police reportedly said that they recovered five bags of marijuana during the search.

The police as well reported that the accused procured the banned drug from Andhra Pradesh and were planning to sell it in the Nigdi area in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The police inspector Dattaji Mohite is investigating the matter for further details.

Additionally, Pimpri-Chinchwad police arrested two people for supposedly trying to transport marijuana in an autorickshaw. Police identified the suspected duo as Akla Vishnu Dhanawde (43) and Atul Bhimrao Jadhav (20). They were planning to selling the drug to their customers in the city.

On Wednesday evening, a team of Wakad police arrested the two in Thergaon area and recovered 1.95 kg of marijuana from them worth Rs 40,000. The two have been booked under the sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
