Pune: A series of accidents during the past fortnight in Pune, involving police van being hit by a truck, have once again put the issue of traffic safety on the highway in sharp focus. Five different were reported on Pune-Mumbai highway since Monday morning leaving three dead and more than 20 injured.

Two Pune Rural Police constables were injured after a truck rammed their van near Katraj Tunnel of Satara-Mumbai Highway on Monday. Police Inspector of Sinhagad Road Police Station Devidas Gheware, said, “A truck rammed police van leaving two police personnel from Pune Rural Police department injured. The accident took place at 9.30 am and heavy traffic was witnessed in the area. We are examining the case further.”

In another accident, a container heading to Mumbai from Satara rammed four vehicles near the Katraj tunnel bridge on Monday. The speedy container rammed into a vehicle and two cars leaving four women including a six-month-old baby injured in the accident.

Earlier, Pune woke up to three accidents on Monday. One of the accident took place near Ravet on Pune-Mumbai Expressway on the early hours of Monday where a private travels bus heading to Mumbai rammed into a truck from its rear side. One person died on the spot while 15 people were injured. Out of 8 injured passengers, six were admitted to Aundh Hospital while two others were taken to the private hospital.

In a fourth accident in Pune, two people died and three left injured when two trucks charred in a head-on collision near Narhe on Monday.

The series of accident continued near the ‘I Love Narhe Selfie Point’, where an Eicher truck carrying spare parts turtled after collision with a vehicle. However, people in both vehicles sustained minor injuries in the accident and were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
