In another tragic case, a 23-year-old transgender person, Nilesh Sonali Khandagale, died by suicide at Khadakwasla dam; the reason remains unknown.
Pune, 29 July 2025: In two tragic incidents on July 28, Pune witnessed the deaths of two individuals who died by suicide in separate parts of the city one at a corporate office in Hinjawadi and the other at Khadakwasla dam.
In the first case, a 23-year-old engineer, Piyush Kawade, jumped from the 7th floor of the Atlas Copco GECIA Company building located in Hinjawadi Phase 1. Kawade, a resident of Wakad and originally from Nashik, had been employed at the company for the past year.
According to Hinjawadi Police, the incident occurred during working hours while Kawade was in a meeting. He reportedly experienced sudden emotional distress, complained of chest pain, and left the meeting room. Moments later, he jumped from the 7th floor and died on the spot.
A suicide note was found at the scene, confirming that it was a case of suicide. The Hinjawadi Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are investigating further.
In a separate incident the same evening, a transgender individual, Nilesh Sonali Khandagale (age 23), died by suicide by jumping into the Khadakwasla dam. Fire brigade personnel recovered the body and rushed it to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Khandagale dead.
The reason behind the suicide remains unknown. Nanded City Police are conducting further investigation into the matter.
Both incidents have shocked local communities and raised concerns over the growing mental health crisis among youth in the city.
