Pune University: Online convocation ceremony postponed due to national mourning

Pune: Due to the demise of former President Pranab Mukherjee, the 117th convocation ceremony of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SSPU) which was scheduled on Thursday (September 3) has been postponed. The university administration has informed that the next date for the convocation program will be announced soon.

Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Governor of Maharashtra and Goa states and Naushad Forbes, Chairman of Forbes Marshall Private Limited Company had accepted to be the chief guest for the online function. They were also going to address the graduated students in presence of SPPU Vice-Chancellor Dr Nitin Karmalkar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr NS Umrani, Registrar Dr Prafull Pawar, Director of the Board of Examination Mahesh Kakade.

About three lakh students apply each year to the university for convocation which is held at the university campus with great fanfare. But the Covid-19 outbreak has forced SPPU to conduct its 117th Regular Convocation Ceremony online this year. Currently, due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases, degree certificates will be sent by post in the next 15 days to the address mentioned in the application by the students.

Degree certificates will be distributed to a total of 7,035 undergraduate and postgraduate students in various disciplines who have passed in 2018-19 and earlier. Out of which there are 104 PhD students who have applied for the degree certificate. Of these, 7 PhD students will be awarded degree certificates at the convocation ceremony.

Those students who have cleared their examination held in October or November 2019 or prior to it had applied for the regular convocation certificate. While for the supplementary convocation certificate, only students who have cleared the examinations in April or May 2019 had applied.

If a student is unable to find his or her name in the convocation list, then they should contact the certificate section along with convocation application form copy, paid payment receipt copy and final year mark sheet copy. For any correction of name, college name, class etc in degree certificate, students should contact within three months to certificate section.
