Pune, 3rd July 2026: Since midnight continuous monsoon showers have intensified across the city and its surrounding areas, with heavy rainfall lashing the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rainfall is likely to intensify further over the next two to three days and has issued a Red Alert for Pune's ghat regions till July 5.
The monsoon has now become active across Maharashtra, bringing widespread rainfall to several districts. In Pune, steady showers have continued since July 1, resulting in a noticeable rise in reservoir storage. The improved water levels have offered temporary relief from the water shortage that had affected the city in recent weeks.
According to the IMD, isolated locations in the ghat areas are likely to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next three days. Authorities have advised residents and travellers to remain cautious, especially in hilly regions where intense rain could affect road conditions and trigger localised incidents.
The continuous rainfall has also brought down Pune's daytime temperatures considerably. The city's maximum temperature dropped by nearly 5 degrees Celsius over the past three days. On Thursday, Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 27°C and a minimum of 21.1°C.
Heavy rain throughout Thursday and late into the night caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas and on major roads, leading to slow-moving traffic during peak evening hours.
Commuters faced delays while travelling home as vehicles moved through flooded stretches across different parts of the city. IMD has indicated that wet weather is expected to continue, with rainfall activity likely to remain strong through the weekend.
