Pune, 7th January 2026: Over the last week Pune had experienced noticeably warmer nights, reducing the usual winter chill. But, after a brief period of rising temperatures at the start of the new year, cold conditions have returned to the city and surrounding areas.
On Tuesday (January 6), the minimum temperature dropped sharply by around three degrees Celsius in a single day to 12.9°C. On Wednesday (January 7), Pune recorded a minimum temperature of 10.6°C, while the maximum temperature stood at 27.7°C, bringing back the winter feel during early mornings and late evenings.
Just a few days ago, minimum temperatures in Pune had climbed close to 15°C, making the weather unusually mild for January. The sudden fall has once again led to cooler conditions, although afternoons continue to remain sunny and slightly warm.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather across Pune and nearby areas is expected to remain stable till January 10. Skies are likely to stay mostly clear, with no major changes in temperature expected over the next two to three days.
As a result, citizens are experiencing a mix of mild cold during mornings and evenings, and bright sunshine with some heat during the daytime, a typical winter transition phase for Maharashtra’s plateau regions.
