Pune, 2nd May 2026: A 28-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after jumping from a bastion near the Tophkhana area of Sinhgad Fort, police said. An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered at Haveli Police Station under Pune Rural Police.
The woman, a resident of Bijlinagar in Chinchwad and originally from Nanded, had been reported missing by her family on April 28. After receiving the complaint, police alerted multiple stations and began efforts to trace her movements.
During the investigation, officials tracked her last known location to the Sinhagad Fort area. A search operation was then launched under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Vaishali Patil, with support from police personnel and a team of trekkers due to the difficult terrain.
Despite extensive efforts, she could not be located on the first day of the search. The operation resumed the next morning, when it was found that she had jumped from a bastion near the Tophkhana section of the fort.
Trekkers descended into the valley using ropes and located the body, which was later retrieved with the help of police and forest department officials. Police said the exact reason behind the incident is still unknown, and further investigation is underway.
