Punekar boy become 'lieutenant' in Indian Army after giving fifth attempt

Pune: 22-year-old Siddharth Girish Vaishampayan, a resident of Sadashiv Peth is all set to join IMA - Dehradun for the 149 (DE) course. The results of CDS exam were declared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) recently wherein Siddharth stands 38th in all India merit from 106 youths who have cleared the CDS-IMA merit.

Siddharth is a student of Apex careers and has received the guidance from Lt Col Pradeep Brahmankar (Retd). Siddharth's father Girish Vaishampayan is into catering services, while his mother Gayatri is a homemaker.

Siddharth is the only child of his parents. Siddharth has been helping his father for food delivery. Siddharth did his schooling from DES society's Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar Guruji Vidyalaya, a Marathi medium school in Sadashiv Peth and secured 95.2 per cent marks in March 2014 X SSC board exams. He pursued his further education at Fergusson College. Siddharth scored 80.3 per cent marks in twelfth board exams. While he completed his bachelor degree in science in specialisation in statistics in 2019 and he presently, pursuing his second year of M.Sc. (Statistics) in MIT, Kothrud.

While studying in Class XI, Siddharth got an opportunity to attend the National Defence Academy (NDA)'s Passing out Parade (POP), which motivated him to make a career in the Indian Army. During graduation, he joined NCC, which further motivated him. Siddharth did the NCC 'C' Certificate in 'B' grade, because of which he could apply for the NCC entry of the Indian Army.

Siddharth qualified the SSB in his fifth attempt. He had qualified NDA three times. However, instead of all his efforts, he could not qualify the three SSB attempts he gave since 2016. Last year, he appeared for SSB for the NCC entry. Siddharth appeared for the CDS Exam in September 2019 and qualified the written exams. He appeared for the SSB interview in March first week this year at Bhopal and finally succeeded. Siddharth plans to join the fighting arms, either Infantry or Armoured regiment.

Siddharth has been a student of Apex Careers for XII+NDA, a one-year course. He also did the SSB interview coaching and the CDS written Exam coaching with Apex careers.

The Director of Apex Careers, Lt Col Pradeep Brahmankar (Retd) spoke about the success of Siddharth with Sakal Times, said, "Siddharth has been extremely focussed right from his HSC. His determination and hard work have finally given results. He is very much interested in reading, trekking and physical fitness and plays Volleyball, Football and Basketball''. He further said, "Sidharth will undergo a one and half year training at Indian Military Academy. After successful completion of training, he will get commissioned as 'Lieutenant' in the Indian Army.''
