Pune, 7th September 2026: Punekars took out a march from Balgandharva Rangmandir to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Sunday morning to protest against the use of loud DJs during festivals and religious events.
The march began around 11.30 am, with citizens raising slogans including “ “DJ must be stopped,” and “One, two, three, four, drive DJs out.” Many protesters carried placards demanding restrictions on loud DJ systems.
Citizens said excessive DJ noise causes problems for senior citizens, children, students and patients. They clarified that they are not against festivals or religious celebrations but want organisers to follow prescribed noise limits.
Several protesters carried messages such as “We do not want DJ noise, we want peace” and “Let us live, stop DJs.”
They also urged authorities to ensure that noise pollution rules are implemented effectively and that action is taken against organisers who violate the permitted sound limits.
A Pune resident brought his pet dog to the march, with a placard around its neck highlighting that animals are also affected by loud DJ noise. The dog became a noticeable part of the protest.
Nirmal Kulkarni, a citizen, said, “We are not against celebrating festivals. However, there is no need to create noise loud enough to disturb others. DJ noise causes serious problems for children, senior citizens and sick people. If rules exist, they must be strictly enforced.”
Abhay Golekar, another citizen, said, “Although I came to Pune from outside, the city feels like my own. That is why I joined this protest against DJs. I live in the central part of the city and we also face the problem of loud DJ noise. I have personally seen the difficulties it causes to an elderly family living near us.”
The protesters urged the PMC and other authorities to take the issue seriously and ensure that noise pollution norms are followed during the festival season.
