PUNE: This Christmas, people are going eco-friendly by replacing plastic and thermocol decorations. Christmas shopping experience in Pune can bring out the child in you.
Christmas week is here and it brings along the jolly spirit of this week that people are eagerly waiting for. It is that time of the year when the bylanes of Camp wake up and the smell of cakes and Christmas tree and their decorations linger through them.
Shops like JP Demello, D Furtado & Sons on Sachapir Street are serving Punekars for decades selling Christmas decorations like stars, balls, streamers, cribs, trees, lighting and other items.
“This year, due to the plastic ban in Maharashtra, more people are buying eco-friendly decorations made of jute, cloth, and wood,” said Ivo Demello, owner of JP Demello shop.
The Christmas celebration is not complete without a cake, whether it is rum, wine cake or plum cake and cookies. The cake shops like Marz-O-Rin, Hussaini Bakery and Pasteur Bakery are selling their specialty in cakes and cookies like plum, mava, almond cookies, rum, wine and marzipan and more products.
“People from different religions as well as from different localities of the city come here to buy our special rum and wine cakes on the occasion of Christmas,” said Hassan, owner of Pasteur Bakery. Many vendors have set up stalls near Bata Chowk and MG Road selling Christmas decorations.
CHRISTMAS SHOPPING IN SHIVAJINAGAR
There are many shops like Cake City, Cake Destiny on JM Road and Monginis on FC Road, which are selling various varieties of cakes. Apart from delicacies, one can buy decoration items from Archies and Venus Traders.
FC Road, which is filled with street sellers of clothes and jewellery, are now full of vendors selling Christmas props and Santa hats. “Most people are buying hairbands with bunny ears or antlers along with Santa hats,” said Lodi Kade, one of the vendors.
