Pune: The Swargate underpass will remain shut for 40 days to facilitate concrete work. The Swargate underpass for vehicles heading towards Sarasbaug will remain shut for 40 days after Diwali.

The work would be undertaken by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). A meeting between the MSRDC and PMC officials took place recently. PMC Executive Engineer IN Randive, Deputy Engineer MM Thopte, MSRDC Executive Engineer DD Baravkar, Deputy Engineer DD Karjekar, Consultant Udya Khairatkar and the construction company officials were present in this meeting. It was decided to make the present tar road fully into a cement concrete road.

One of the travellers said, "I travel from this road every day. Once we pass through the subway, potholes here automatically reduce the speed of the vehicle leading to the damage of the vehicle. In the rainy season, this route is extremely dangerous and needs to repair on priority.”

The work will be started soon after Diwali and will take around 40 days for completion. A traffic diversion plan will be made in coordination with the Pune City Traffic Police. The MSRDC is responsible for the maintenance of this grade separator and hence they will undertake the work through their contractors. The work of this subway was done by MSRDC seven years ago. Since the entire work is being done within the warranty period, the concerned contractor will bear all expenses.
