PMC to conduct Pulse Polio Drive in Pune on October 12.
3.12 lakh children under five to get oral polio drops at 1,350 booths.
Follow-up house-to-house vaccination from October 13–17 for those missed.
Pune, 9th October 2025: On Sunday, October 12, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to carry out a Pulse Polio Immunisation Drive, aiming to reach more than 312,000 children under the age of five. The civic health department has urged parents to bring their children to the nearest polio booth for the two oral drops that offer protection against the disease.
This year's campaign signifies the sub-national Pulse Polio round, succeeding the previous initiative conducted in March of the previous year. Vaccinations will be provided at 1,350 booths located at anganwadis, civic hospitals, temples, and various public venues. The drive is scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
To guarantee comprehensive coverage, PMC teams will carry out door-to-door visits from October 13 to 17 for children who missed the dose on Sunday. The initiative will also include transit areas like bus stands, railway stations, metro stations, airports, parks, and construction sites to reach children in transit, as well as migrant settlements and brick kiln locations.
Dr. Rajesh Dighe, serving as the Assistant Health Officer, emphasized the significance of giving an extra polio dose to children who have already been vaccinated. He clarified that newborns get their initial dose at birth and another one after 45 days, but the Pulse Polio dose can be given irrespective of this timeline. Additionally, he noted that children born after September 13 should also receive this dose.
Dr. Dighe mentioned that the municipal teams plan to target 3,12,755 children in the Sunday campaign and will visit approximately 10.4 lakh households in the subsequent days to guarantee that every eligible child in Pune receives the essential drops.
