Pune, 25 April 2026: The Maharashtra government has approved a ₹6,000 crore loan guarantee for Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to facilitate land acquisition for the proposed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport at Purandar.

The guarantee will remain valid for one year, during which the loan must be raised and compensation to affected farmers must be completed.

The airport project is expected to require around 3,000 acres of land. The state had earlier, on February 10, granted approval to raise the loan. To execute the project, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be formed, comprising Maharashtra Airport Development Company, City and Industrial Development Corporation, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, along with MIDC.

According to the plan, the district administration will carry out the land acquisition process and hand over the land to MIDC. The corporation has been authorized to manage the financial arrangements for the acquisition and ensure timely disbursement of compensation to farmers.

While most procedural steps for land acquisition have been completed, the process has been delayed due to the pending finalization of land compensation rates. Officials expect that the latest decision will help in determining these rates quickly and enable the actual acquisition process to begin soon.

In terms of loan repayment, CIDCO will bear the highest share at 51%, followed by MADC at 19%, while MIDC and PMRDA will each contribute 15%. MIDC has been designated as the primary borrower and will raise the loan. If the SPV is unable to repay the loan, the state government will take responsibility for settling the dues.
