Quack doctor nabbed by Pune police for stealing vehicles worth Rs 4 lakh

Pune: Hadapsar police arrested a notorious youth for allegedly stealing vehicles in the guise of a doctor.

The Police have identified the arrested person as Shahrukh Razzak Pathan (23), a resident of Shelke Mala in Yavat and is native of Saswad. Hadapsar police have recovered vehicles worth Rs 4 lakhs. He was arrested earlier, by the Faraskhana police, for stealing some 26 two-wheelers, three cars and one tempo.

During the lockdown, various house breaking incidents were reported at Hadapsar police station jurisdiction, which falls under the Pune city police commissionerate. Based on which, the Hadapsar police had deployed a team, assistant police inspector Sanjay Chavan, police sub-inspector Himalaya Joshi and another team were formed.

During patrolling, the Hadapsar police based staffer Nitin Munde and Vinod Shewale had received information from an informant, that an arrested suspect Pathan was standing and roaming suspiciously. Based on this, they visited the post and grilled him near the Grape research institute. He had robbed one two-wheeler Activa from Manjari and was having a deal of selling a bike when police zeroed down on him.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kalyanrao Vidhate, speaking to Sakal Times said, "Arrested suspect Pathan is having a criminal past. In January this year, he was released on bail from Yerawada Prison. He presented himself as a doctor and wore a doctor apron along with a stethoscope, as well as an MBBS doctor's ID belonging to Sassoon General hospital."

Speaking to Sakal Times, Senior Inspector Ramesh Sathe, incharge of Hadapsar police station said, "Pathan has a criminal record and earlier he was arrested by Faraskhana police station, in which he was involved in stealing 26 two-wheelers, three four-wheelers and one tempo. In January he was released on bail and post it he again started committing the same crime of stealing vehicles. Between February and June in this span, he stole some two vehicles from Hadapsar police station jurisdiction, one from Kondhwa and two from Bund Garden."

He added, "We are investigating the case and finding out to whom he had sold the vehicles. He used to dress in doctor's uniform to escape from police traps and considering the current scenario where doctors are considered as corona warriors, he assumed he will be allowed moving out easily."
