Pune: Newly appointed Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram on Tuesday took charge of Pune collectorate from former collector Saurabh Rao. Rao meanwhile took over as Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation. Speaking to reporters, Ram said he will try to balance the demands and development needs of the people.

“There is also need to bring transparency in government work and I will try to focus on speedy and efficient work,” added Ram, who has served in Yavatmal and Beed and was earlier posted as collector of Aurangabad.

Ram had helped farmers of Beed in getting Rs 1,200 crore under the government’s crop insurance scheme and also helped citizens in getting access to water, education and health. He played a vital role in land acquisition of 860 hectares from farmers for the ambitious ‘Samruddhi Corridor’ project of the State government.

Speaking about land acquisition from farmers of Purandar to build Purandar International Airport, Ram said there is a need to gain trust of people before the acquisition process begins.

Former district collector Saurabh Rao thanked government officials and departments for supporting him during his four-year tenure. “Handling the issue of rehabilitation of people after the Malin tragedy, work done on the Jalyukta Shivar Project and Purandar airport provides satisfaction to me,” said Rao.
