PUNE: Residents of ITI Road in Aundh are a harrassed lot. They are suffering from water issues for last few months due to the construction of roads and pipelines under Smart City projects. The residents are forced to use water tankers provided by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for their daily chores.
Saryu Sanghvi, a resident of Shivalik building, said, “We are facing water issue for a really long time now and although tankers are there, it is very inconvenient to call it at odd hours, if the water gets over. We have been talking to the authorities but we are not getting any proper reply about it.”
Rajni Agarwal, who lives in Vedang building, said, “Water is a basic necessity. It’s very inconvenient to use tankers and also sometimes the tanker given by PMC is not enough, as we have 50 families residing in the building. How long can we survive like this?”
A senior citizen and resident of Shirin Garden said, “This Smart City project is very good but the progress is very slow. Since this slow progress and stalled work, we are facing many issues and water concern is one of the most important one.”
“Tankers are there, but it is very inconvenient and causes hassles. How long will we survive this temporary life? There is no water in the taps and I am 75 years old, how will I manage at this age?” he added.
“The road construction work is underway and simultaneously the work of the pipeline is also underway. L&T has the contract to do this pipeline work and it will take sometime to finish it, and then we will provide new connections to the residents,” an official from PMC said.
“It is a transit period and that is why people are facing problems and very soon we will be able to provide them with a new connection to resolve their issues,” he added.
