Pune: Considering the rising number of vehicle registrations, four vehicle testing tracks have been approved for testing of light and heavy vehicles. The decision was taken in a recent meeting between Pune Guardian Minister Girish Bapat and State Transport Minister Diwakar Raote in Mumbai.
A press note issued by the district information office said that light vehicle tracks will be built in Bhosari and tracks for heavy vehicles will be built in Dive Ghat.
Bapat said that a fund of Rs 1.2 crore has been approved for building the tracks. He also said preference in testing of vehicles will be given to school and State Transport buses. Bapat said that on an average, nearly 500 vehicles are registered in Pune on a daily basis and so, to solve various issues of Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO), an additional staff of 10 people will be allocated to the RTO.
Various other transport issues were also discussed in the meet, which was attended by members of transport bodies. "We are looking into problems of various autorickshaw unions and are also trying to make improvements in online vehicle registration process," added Bapat. The Dive Ghat testing track was to be opened in May 2017 but is yet to become operational.
