Pune: A customer was denied entry to State Bank of India (SBI) on Saturday for wearing Bermuda shorts. The incident took place at the Small and Medium Industries Urban Loan Centre of SBI near Hirabaug, Tilak Road.
While there is no dress code that a customer is expected to follow while going to the bank, the actions have received a backlash from customers and bank authorities. Nikhil Wagh, the customer who was denied entry, runs a bat repair business and is a cricketer himself. “When I went to the bank, it was raining and I thought it would be comfortable to wear Bermuda shorts."
"However, the security guard stopped me saying that my clothes were inappropriate for the bank. When the manager came out, he also told me the same thing. I have written an email about the same to PM Modi and CM Fadnavis,” Wagh said.
Meanwhile, Archana Bapat, Chief General Manager (Administration), said, “The customers do not have to follow any dress code while coming to the bank, and what clothes to wear is completely a matter of their personal choice. No bank can deny entry to customers due to the clothes that he/she is wearing.”
