PUNE: State Bank of India (SBI), in collaboration with College of Engineering Pune (CoEP), launched a co-branded card for the students and faculty of the college on Monday. CoEP is the first institute in India to launch such a combo card.

The debit card of the bank will not only serve the purpose of banking transaction with SBI but could also be used as an identity card for CoEPians. The digital card will facilitate numerous transactions and operations like issuing books in the college library, entry in the hostel, cashless payments at the college and hostel campus, etc.

The combo card can be used as an International Debit Card for both F2F (face-to-face) and e-commerce transactions. It is a photo card with roll-number/employee number and abbreviated name of the college on the face of the card.

Dr BB Ahuja, Director, CoEP, said, “SBI has provided the card free of cost to the students, which can be used by them even after graduating from college. It’s a unique initiative toward supporting the government’s motive of digitalisation.”

Sanjay Biharilal, GM, SBI Corporate Centre, Mumbai, said that the bank proposes to extend this initiative all over the country by associating with more institutes. “We are confident that the launch of the card will help in inculcating the habit of payments through cards and moving towards a cashless economy,” he added.
