Pune, 10 July 2025: A shocking accident occurred near the Daruwala Bridge in Pune’s Kasba Peth area during ongoing drainage line work, where a heavy iron pole suddenly collapsed, severely injuring a school-going girl. The incident has raised serious concerns about safety measures at the construction site, which local residents claim were grossly neglected.
The injured girl was walking home from school when the pole fell and struck her on the head. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. According to hospital sources, the girl has sustained injuries to her head and shoulder. While her condition is reported to be stable, she remains under close medical observation.
The accident led to panic and fear in the Kasba Peth locality. Eyewitnesses and residents allege that the accident was a direct result of the contractor’s negligence and lack of safety precautions by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). They claim that the iron pole was left unsecured by the roadside during the pipe-laying work and toppled over without warning.
Local citizens have demanded that the drainage work be halted immediately and have called for strict action against those responsible for the mishap. They emphasized that such incidents could have been easily prevented had standard safety protocols been followed.
As of now, the identity of the injured girl has not been officially released. Peoples are hoping that this incident will intensify the scrutiny of civic projects in Pune, especially in terms of public safety and accountability during infrastructure work.
