SEC offers to fix Pune’s rising pollution level

Mumbai: Strata Enviro Company (SEC) has come forward to solve the issue of rising pollution in Pune city. The company recently made a presentation with the Environment Department. According to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Boards (MPCB) survey, Karve Road, Nal Stop and Swargate are the most polluted areas in Pune. Suspended particles in the air in these areas are 186 micrograms per litre. Along with this sulphur dioxide and nitrous oxide are at 54 and 147 micrograms per litre respectively. 

MPCB has decided to install machinery to reduce the pollution and increase the air quality.  The Strata Enviro Company made a presentation to Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam to reduce the polluting particles in the air. Emission from vehicles, dust generated from the construction site and smoke will be reduced through the machines. Kadam said there is a plan to reduce the pollution in Pune city along with 17 other cities. 

“The draft plan of that is ready and within the next few months, it will be implemented,” he said. According to the plan, electric vehicles and vehicles driven on CNG would be encouraged. “As per the action plan, vehicles which are more than 12 years old will be banned in the city. Subsidy of close to Rs 12,000 was given to autorickshaws for switching to CNG. The urban street design was implemented which has a cycle track and stormwater drains,” said Kadam.

Pune MLA Bhimrao Tapkir complained about the pollution in Pune to Kadam.  After his complaint, the minister assured Tapkir that the issue will be addressed in next few months.
