

Pune, 22 January 2026: Samarth Police have arrested a habitual house burglar for breaking into a house and stealing gold jewellery, following an extensive CCTV-based investigation. The accused was traced and detained within days of the crime, and the stolen valuables were recovered.
According to police, the accused entered a residence on January 8 and stole gold ornaments worth approximately ₹90,000. A complaint was subsequently registered at Samarth Police Station, after which a detailed investigation was launched.
During the probe, police examined footage from nearly 150 CCTV cameras across the city area. Based on this analysis, the suspect was identified and taken into custody on January 20. The arrested individual has been identified as Sohel Sameer Shaikh (26), a resident of New Nana Peth, Pune.
Senior Police Inspector Umesh Geete said the accused is a repeat offender, with two previous serious cases of burglary and theft registered against him.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior police officials and executed by a dedicated crime detection team from Samarth Police Station.
