Pune, 2nd March 2026: South Pune residents may soon benefit from improved public transport as authorities have proposed a new metro corridor connecting Shivajinagar to Yewalewadi via Kondhwa.

The 20-kilometre elevated stretch aims to ease traffic congestion and provide faster, safer connectivity to rapidly growing residential areas in the southern part of the city.

Officials have stated that if all approvals and surveys are completed on schedule, the corridor is expected to become operational by 2030–31. The project is being planned as part of the broader expansion of Pune’s metro network to cater to increasing commuter demand.

According to MahaMetro officials, the Shivajinagar to Yewalewadi route will be developed as a fully elevated corridor spanning approximately 20 kilometres.

The extension is linked to the 23-kilometre Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro line, which is being developed under the public-private partnership model and is expected to commence operations by the end of April.

The proposed Kondhwa–Yewalewadi stretch will be executed directly by MahaMetro. In addition, an extra spur line is planned to extend connectivity from NIBM Road to Undri.

There is also a proposal to integrate the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro with Camp and Pul Gate to further strengthen connectivity across central Pune.
