Pune, 28 January 2026: Corporator Manjusha Nagpure has urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to shift the proposed metro corridor from Sinhgad Road to the riverbed or the canal road, instead of constructing it by drilling into the existing flyover.

In a letter addressed to Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Nagpure stated that constructing an elevated metro line on Sinhgad Road would require drilling holes at 66 locations in the flyover for metro pillars, which could severely affect traffic flow and damage the structure. The letter was submitted in early December, ahead of the municipal elections.

The metro corridor from Khadakwasla to Hadapsar–Kharadi was approved by the Central government after the Sinhgad Road flyover was completed. However, Nagpure argued that shifting the metro alignment away from the main road would help avoid traffic congestion during construction and allow the project to be completed faster.

She added that relocating the metro route would also prevent visual and structural damage to Sinhgad Road. According to her, the Khadakwasla–Kharadi corridor is expected to serve as a vital east-west-south connectivity route for Pune, and the daily commuting experience of residents along this stretch should be prioritised while finalising the alignment.
