Pune: With the performing of the ground-breaking ceremony of Katraj-Kondhwa Road widening project, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has indirectly started the election campaign of upcoming
Assembly elections in Pune. Speaking on the occasion, he said the number of projects slated for Pune would transform the city.
After completing four years of tenure of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state, this is the first programme of the Chief Minister in Pune. Fadnavis stated that the BJP government has started the long-pending development projects, which will change the face of the city.
The programme was organised by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). City Mayor Mukta Tilak, MP Anil Shirole, District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao and BJP leaders were present.
During approval of the Katraj Kondhwa Road project, the opposition leaders alleged corruption on the part of the local MLA of Hadapsar constituency Yogesh Tilekar. One police complaint was filed alleging corruption by Tilekar. Therefore, the BJP was not sure about the presence of Fadnavis at this programme as the Katraj-Kondhwa road is in the Hadapsar constituency. However, Fadnavis came for the ground-breaking ceremony of project.
Fadnavis said, “Local MLA Tilekar has struggled a lot for the Katraj-Kondhwa Road project. He was successful. Many people tried to create hurdles in the project. The issue was also raised in the Assembly session. However, Tilekar took a lot of efforts to start the project.”
“The BJP government resolved to complete long-pending development works. The corporation has done good work. Central, State and the PMC are effectively working for the development of Pune city. Swargate multimodal hub, Outer Ring Road, River Rejuvenation Project, Solid Waste Management and Water Supply project will transform the city and it will be recognised internationally,” he added.
The development of the 3.5-km stretch of the Katraj-Kondhwa Road project will cost the PMC Rs 149 crore. Earlier, the project tender cost was Rs 215 crore. It was put up for re-tendering after objections from opposition parties. After re-tendering, the project cost went down and it was approved. After this development, the BJP workers distributed sweets on the premises of the PMC.
